Rendition Concering Books Graveminder (Graveminder #1)

Rebekkah Barrow never forgot the tender attention her grandmother, Maylene, bestowed upon the dead of Claysville. While growing up, Rebekkah watched as Maylene performed the same unusual ritual at every funeral: three sips from a small silver flask followed by the words, "Sleep well, and stay where I put you." Now Maylene is gone and Bek must return to the hometown—and the man—she abandoned a decade ago, only to discover that Maylene's death was not natural . . . and there was good reason for her odd traditions. In Claysville, the worlds of the living and the dead are dangerously connected—and beneath the town lies a shadowy, lawless land ruled by the enigmatic Charles, aka Mr. D. From this dark place the deceased will return if their graves are not properly minded. And only the Graveminder, a Barrow woman, and the current Undertaker, Byron, can set things to right once the dead begin to walk.

Criticize Epithetical Books Graveminder (Graveminder #1)
I'd never read anything by Melissa Marr, even though I see that she's put out several books before this one. I had high hopes for Graveminder. The idea for it sounded intriguing.Unfortunately I very quickly got frustrated with the way in which events unfolded. It seems like the great majority, if not all, of the confusion and conflict in the book was a result of the characters just not bothering to ever tell anyone anything, and never for any reason beyond "Oh, I just couldn't!" It seemed a bit

Creative world but tedious romanceIn Melissa Marr's first adult novel, GRAVEMINDER, the quiet, small town of Claysville is not what it seems. When her beloved but quirky grandmother is found dead, Rebekkah returns to the place and the man, Byron, she's been keeping at arm's length for nearly a decade. Very soon, Bek and Byron learn that secrets have been kept from them and that a shadowy world of the dead exists under their feet. Pulled into centuries-old roles as the Graveminder and the

In the small town of Claysville, when someone dies, there are strict rituals that get observed, of drink and food at the gravestone, and words spoken on a regular basis. Only a few people know why, and the reader gradually gets let in on to the secret (exposition, exposition, and still MORE exposition - TOO MUCH exposition, dragged out too long) along with the two main protagonists, Rebekkah and Byron, who inherit the duties of performing the rituals, no getting out of it. The town made a deal

I can see why some people would gobble this up and fall into this world. I can also see why some people would rip it to shreds and hate it. It is creepy, but not overly so. So, those of you wanting to be "pee-your-pants scared" you will be dissapointed. However, if you are a cowardly lion like me, you will be okay.I feel like this is a -not-for-me story, yet I know it still had it's shining moments. I also hate how long it took to really get to the main story. There was so much world building

Why read: Received for reviewWhat impressed me: Graveminder went places I never even considered until we were in the thick of things. It was a story that made sense piece by piece, but you never figured out what was coming beforehand. I loved the town and its rules and secrets. I absolutely loved the otherworldly aspects of the book and wish we could have experienced even more of it. This was a zombie novel that is nothing like any before it. I truly thought I wasn't going to enjoy it and found

Have you ever attended a seminar or lecture given by someone you find wholly intriguing only to have the entire thing be a complete and total wash? And you're sitting there wondering when things are going to get good, but the lecturer's monotone voice and thoroughly uninspired narration are conspiring to put you to sleep even though you know, deep down, that you should be on the edge of your seat? That's what Graveminder is like. All the elements are there; paranormal phenomenon, secrets,

I haven't read a book in a long time. Somehow, I was busy with school and life to actually have the time to pick up a book and read it. When I went to the library to pick up some graphic novels/mangas I saw this and somehow I was drawn to it. The cover (with the old house) was creepy and the blurb sounded delicious. For the first time in a long time, I was truly excited to pick up a book. Then I started to read it. This is the first book of Melissa Marr that I've read, I know her by her Wicked
