Interpretation To Books The Minds of Billy Milligan

Billy Milligan can be anyone he wants to be . . . except himself. Out of control of his actions, Billy Milligan was a man tormented by twenty-four distinct personalities battling for supremacy over his body—a battle that culminated when he awoke in jail, arrested for the kidnap and rape of three women. In a landmark trial, Billy was acquitted of his crimes by reason of insanity caused by multiple personality—the first such court decision in history—bringing to public light the most remarkable and harrowing case of multiple personality ever recorded. Twenty-four people live inside Billy Milligan. Philip, a petty criminal; Kevin, who dealt drugs and masterminded a drugstore robbery; April, whose only ambition was to kill Billy's stepfather; Adalana, the shy, lonely, affection-starved lesbian who “used” Billy's body in the rapes that led to his arrest; David, the eight-year-old “keeper of pain”; and all of the others, including men, women, several children, both boys and girls, and the Teacher, the only one who can put them all together. You will meet each in this often shocking true story. And you will be drawn deeply into the mind of this tortured young man and his splintered, terrifying world.

Discuss Containing Books The Minds of Billy Milligan
Author Daniel Keyes has presented a very riveting description of the human condition if it is pushed too far. I have read this book twice and I have to say that it is one of the best books I have ever read. Enduring unbelievably cruel tortures as a child at the hands of his stepfather, including sodomy and being forced to dig his own grave-and yes, being buried alive in that same grave, Billy Milligan's mind fragmented into 24 seperate and distinct personalities. I have posted the alter ego's

I think that everyone would benefit from Arthur of their own.

An interesting look at mental illness and criminality. Daniel Keyes is a very capable writer and I was more than a little letdown with how he approached Billy's hospitalization and psychological study. The Minds of Billy Milligan really shined when Keyes wrote about Billy's life and traumas that contributed to his illness. A good read but Billy Milligan's story is infinitely more compelling than what is written in this book.

Dr. George Harding noted that the fused Billy Milligan will be less than the sum of his parts. This is sadly true. Through the book, the writer takes you on a journey of the life of a man and the 23 other persons that live inside him. You begin by fearing the Billy responsible for Ohio State University rapes, wishing him to go to jail. The writer skilfully introduces you to their superficial selves first; Arthur's superiority, Ragen's anger, Allen's street smartness, Adalana's sexuality and you

This is a well written and interesting story. It had to be a huge undertaking for this author, so bless his heart for doing so, as I probably would have never known this story otherwise. The author tells the story in such a way as to keep the reader interested. I read somewhere that James Cameron was going to write a screenplay and direct a movie based on this book, but it got bogged down by lawsuits. It is a shame, because I can completely see this book adapted into a movie. Again it would be a

The Minds of Billy Milligan by Daniel Keyes is a challenging look at the controversial case of William Stanley Milligan, a man diagnosed with multiple disorder, who was acquitted for several violent and heinous crimes by pleading insanity as his defense. Armed with sympathetic psychologists and skilled lawyers, the strange case of Billy Milligan is chronicled in great detail by Daniel Keyes, best known for his book, Flowers For Algernon, which also delves deeply into murky waters of human

My first impression of Dissociative identity disorder (DID) came from the film Primal Fear starring Edward Norton as a brutal murderer who pretends to have the disorder. I attempted to read this book when I was in Primary 5 but it was too difficult for me then, so my feelings toward DID remained suspicious.Keyes' report of Milligan's true story made me believe. The pieces surrounding Milligan's story are gathered very well to present a smooth story. I kept finding out more about his "people" and
