This book motivated me to post my first ever review on Goodreads. I was gripped by this book from start to finish and this has not happened in a long time, hence 5 stars. I was a bit hesitant to start it because I had watched the movie but it is apparent after a few pages that the book and movie are not the same story. Not just for young adults, I am 57 and wish I discovered Steven Gould a couple of decades ago.
The idea here is better than the execution. The dialogue is clunky, the plot is thin, and the characters are sketches more than anything. The film based on this book was better, despite its flaws. (Namely the studio-dictated narration at the beginning explaining things to the dumb people in the audience.) They took the basic elements of this book and gave them a high-quality shine while amping up both the stakes and the action. The main character in the movie is more of an anti-hero, whereas here

This is marketed as a science fiction novel, but it's really a superhero story. Totally worth it, immersive and sick as f**k.
When Davy realizes that he has the power of teleportation, he quickly learns to take advantage of this super power. This book is entirely created around the initial premise of "what if a teenage boy suddenly has the power of teleportation?". There isn't really much plot beyond the consequences of his power. The reason I gave this book 1 star is because I really hated the main character. And in this first person point of view, characterization heavy type of book... you really have to like the main
Ive had Jumper on my computer for a while now and never got around to reading it, not sure why. Sometimes with books like that, I feel extra trepidation going into it. Why havent I read it yet? Is it because I can sense its bad? What if I dont like this book?? Im on vacation; I want my reading to be good!! Fortunately, although by no means a home runby dint of Goulds somewhat blah narrationJumper managed to captivate me and keep me reading right until the end, and Im almost tempted to pick up
