I had a bit of an existential crisis while reading Monster. So, this review is going to be about me. And the book. Because both of us had a crisis.Monster is written in a style so similar to my own I had to check my hard drives to make sure that I hadn't written it and published it under a pseudonym while I was black-out drunk that one weekend at my friend's bar mitzvah in Tahoe. But I hadn't. And then I wondered.What does this say about me? Why aren't my books getting picked up by publishersI only just found A Lee Martinez and I can't wait to try everything he's written... each book makes me wish it was the start of a series... so many fun characters, set in fun worlds...This one was a mix of Men in Black and Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch... more books need origami men... such a cool concept...

2.5 stars rounded up.This was largely meh for me. I finished it alright, so that's why I bumped it up. Personally, I didn't connect with either MC (disliked Monster and was meh about Judy.) The plot was somewhat interesting but the book didn't really go into any detail on the hows and whys. This was a fun listen, the narrator was excellent, the story pace was quick, and the writing made me laugh. It was exactly what I needed after two truly creepy and somewhat sad reads.
Ouch...oh...the pain. I bought this....in hardback.It was a couple of years ago, I'd just read Monster Hunter International, the synopsis sounded fun. So again I fell for the "buy it because the synopsis sounds good" weakness.Look, some of you won't dislike this so much.
