Description To Books Bloodthirsty
Fifteen-year-old Finbar Frame seriously missed out in the gene-pool stakes, since his twin brother Luke got the good looks, athletic ability and pigmentation. Finbar is tall, skinny, pale and pretty much allergic to the sun - and sadly, teenage girls don't appreciate Finbar's sensitive skin or his sensitive soul. But when a move to a new school converges with a cultural trend romanticising vampires, Finbar seizes the opportunity. He'll become a vampire! Or at least fake it ... to get a date. Wickedly smart and laugh-out-loud funny, this YA debut novel heralds a brilliant career for this new young author.Rating Based On Books Bloodthirsty

This was one of the first YA books I ordered for my library during my internship. It sounded highly amusing so when it came in I snatched it. The first chapter was a little slow, but after that I blew through it. Considering the trend of interest now with teens this book might actually work to introduce them to some actual vampire lore (not sparkly vampires, sorry to Twilight Fans). My one beef with this book was that it ruined Life of Pi. Granted, I probably should have read it by this point inThree things initially drew me to this book.1) I'm sick of vampires overtaking YA lit.2) It was bargain priced at $2.99.3) I've been flying through books lately so I needed more reading material. My hope for this to be a book I loved was not high. I figured it would at least entertain me and be worth the three bucks it cost me. Oh man, my expectations were passed.Bloodthirsty is clever, witty, thought-provoking, and insightful. I rarely laugh out loud while reading books, but it does happen on
First of all, LOOK AT THIS COVER! I don't usually write about covers but this is just so cute. Even my mom (who is fed up with vampires even though she's never read a single book about them) smiled when she saw it. Whoever designed it has great taste. Now, to the review.Have you read what's written in the back cover?I read it once and immediately wanted to read this book. What's better than a FAKE VAMPIRE in literature? Especially after this vamp spree going on! And let me tell you, it didn't
My Rating: 5/5 starsFinbar is definitely at an awkward and lonely stage in his life. His twin brother, Luke, may not be the smartest guy in school but he pretty much excels at everything else. And to top off his popularity and sport skills he attracts all the girls. Finn on the other hand gets walked all over. He spends most of his time avoided kids at school and watching chick flicks with his mom on the weekend. He has a tough time standing up for himself and he happens to be allergic to the
I won't lie, I had no idea the author was a girl until I finished the book and happened to glance at the back cover and saw the word "she". I read this whole book thinking "Wow, this guy could be like the next John Green" but now knowing it was a girl writing from the perspective of a teenage boy made it even more impressive.
This book has a unique and fun take on vampires and I found myself wishing that it was longer and more involved. It would have been nice to have more character development and action sequences. It would have benefited from another 20k words in my opinion and Meaney could and should have gone much further with the vampire parody. I envisioned plastic fangs, capes, corny vamp pickup lines and lots of Bla Blas. I got none of these. I did get a vaguely humorous story of teenage identity crisis gone
Bloodthirsty was a non-stop laugh for me, purely because it was so true.Finbar is for want of a better word, a loser. He is painfully awkward in social situations, doesnt have the looks or charm of his twin fraternal brother, Luke, and just to make his life that much worse, hes allergic to the sun.Finn was an amazing character for me; he wasnt a whinger which took some expert writing on Meaneys part. His plan to turn himself into a vampire to break away from his life time of social ineptness
